Just FYI,
Current configuration is one machine in AWS for AwareIM and MySQL. I'm in the process of configuring a three-server configuration in AWS. Includes 2 AwareIM servers and 1 database server. AWS will provide load balancing so that requests port through the load balancer, then off to whichever server has the most capacity (or however it works). Both AwareIM servers will be running 8GB RAM and 64 bit Java SDK.
Primary motivation is redundancy so that I can take a server off line and still provide service. Second is sheer capacity - lot of users hitting this thing and more power is needed. Third is to separate database and web server for better security.
Certainly others out there have similar configurations but there is a general lack of information on multi-server configs. As I go along, I'll try to publish knowledge and lessons learned - probably on the DevNet site.
