Maximum number of users etc.?

Hi all,
Just thinking about Aware IM and one thing I´m wondering about is, how many users could 1 application handle? I have been in contact with an insurance company and they are thinking about developing an application for their health services (part of insurance) and they have millions of members with their insurance package but they are thinking about developing an application that would be a pilot project and test this idea. The number of users would be 100.000.

I know this is a difficult question and many factors play a role e.g. complexity of application, concurrent users etc. but when thinking broadly about Aware IM applications. What can 1 application handle and where are the "limits" etc.

Could a standard application handle this? (100.000) or would multiple servers etc. need to be setup for this?
If the 100.000 is too much for a single server application, where would the limit i.e. line between single / multiple server be?
What is your experience, what is the maximum number of users you have had in an Aware IM application?
Is this a project "too big" for Aware IM or what do you think?

Aware IM was designed to handle as many concurrent users as is possible on a particular hardware - it is fully transactional and multi-threadded.

Having said that, obviously a lot depends on the application itself. It is very hard to predict how many users can be handled by a particular server - there are too many factors involved. But if one server becomes too much you can always add another one and another one.

We have a LOT of experience in health/medical insurance admin systems across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, South Africa.

About 2 years ago we built a health insurance admin system using Aware. It was a prototype for demo purposes. It was for a tender for a Chinese insurance company who had literally millions of policy holders. It was multi-lingual too. We never got the contract so we never had to scale it, or make it production ready, but I did look into it and concluded that with the right structure/design we could scale it.

It was pretty much a full fledged admin system... Pm me if you're interested and I can share with you some learnings.

I did a PPI ( Payment Protection Insurance ) app for Genworth Financials ( Part of GE ) , they have has well million of users. The app is taking care of the classic health, unemployment and accident policies. With the right server and development it can be done.

Thanks guys (and support) for the input and then it is as I thought about scalability and about Aware IM (ROCKS 🙂 ). I will continue the dialog and see if it goes anywhere.

RLJB, I might "pick your brain" regarding this when planning my idea/system outline. Thanks for the offer and i´ll send you a message in the coming weeks when I have more time.
