Not really a solution, but I long ago added the following to my login page because I am a browser snoob :lol:
<script type="text/javascript">
if (/MSIE (\d+\.\d+);/.test(navigator.userAgent)) { //test for MSIE x.x;
var ieversion=new Number(RegExp.$1) // capture x.x portion and store as a number
if (ieversion>=8-)
document.write("<div align=\"center\"><font color=\"#333333\"><font color\"size=\"2\"><br><br><br>This browser sucks! <br> VerseGoal will be completely functional, but it might not look great.<br> Try Chrome, Firefox, or Safari for optimal experience.</font></font></div>")
else if (ieversion>=7)
document.write("div align=\"center\"><font color=\"#333333\"><font color\"size=\"2\"><br><br><br>This browser sucks! <br>Seriously, it is wildly out of date. VerseGoal may or may not work, but we do not know; we do not test against anything this old.<br> Try Chrome, Firefox, or Safari for optimal experience.</font></font></div>")
}
else
document.write("n/a")
</script>
It detects all version of IE and passes along my personal option of their browser selection. You can of course easily modify it to a kinder, gentler message, and provide a link to http://whatbrowser.org/
