Action agenda sequence? (BO)

Hi all,
This might be obvious and/or written somewhere in the documentation but I haven´t found anything about it and need to be sure. In the business object rules (i.e. not in a process) when defining multiple actions, is the actions processed STRICTLY after the order in which they are ordered in (action 1 then action 2)?. I have looked at the log and it seems as though this is the way it happens but again need to be sure.

To clarify / use the correct terms. Inside a action block created by a business object rule (i.e not in a process), is the action list executed STRICTLY in the order in which they are ordered in (action 1 then action 2)?

Hi Henrik,

On the Advanced tab of the rule, at the top, is a brief description of the default priority of different types of rules. You can also assign your own priority.

From the user manual:

The higher the priority of the rule corresponding to the action block the sooner it will be executed. The rule engine guarantees that action blocks corresponding to rules with higher priority are always executed before action blocks corresponding to rules with lower priority

whatever actions exist on the agenda are sorted according to the priorities of their rules and are taken off the agenda in that order.

Also from the user manual:

It is important to stress, though, that if priorities of the rules are the same, the order of the corresponding action blocks is random.

Thanks for the input, I have read this too though and the way I understand it/think about it is that the rule engine prioritize action blocks that way (priorities based on type of rule) but 1 action block can consists of multiple actions. My question is if, those actions on the action list are executed STRICTLY in the way in which they are ordered in the action list (action 1 THEN action 2).

Sorry, clarifying again. Trying to learn the correct terms etc. and to use them correclty 🙂

Hi Henrik,

Now I understand what you are asking. Looks like the misunderstanding was on my side.

I do not remember seeing anything about the order of actions inside 1 rule, but I always worked under the assumption that they were executed in the order they were listed. Action1 then Action2 and so on.

Thanks again and no problem. My misuse of the correct terms "helped" I guess 🙂.

I have done some more tests and it seems as though this is the way it works, I will have to leave it at that and rely on that I guess. I have a scenario where the order is important hence the question.
