Navcat for DB backup, management etc.?

Hi all,
I am looking at different options for DB backup and management and got recommended using Navcat for the job (only got the recommendation to check it out and I have read some on the Navcat site etc. but this doesn´t mean a lot to me as i´m a complete DB newbie). Is anyone here using Navcat and can share some thoughts if this is a good / the best tool for the job?

What I am after is a good, reliable tool for backups (automated daily + at various other intervals) and also general management of different DB tasks.

Yep, we use Navicat for backup and restores of our AwareIM MySql database. We had to do a restore one time and it worked as advertised.

Connect remotelly to backup database with just a click.
Pretty good tool.

I just use task scheduler and a .bat file to dump the MySQL database daily to a file which is synchronized via dropbox to multiple locations. BSVs I export when i publish, they also get synced out.

I use a tool called AutoBackup. The difference as I see it is that you can define a retention policy so I backup twice per day and only retain 6 backups - which is fine for my purpose. It confirms completion via email. As I recall it was $59 buck or so. I've been very happy with it.

The retention policy sounds interesting, I wonder if this is possible in NavCat.

Regarding the backups you do by the way, you do backups twice a day? How does that work in terms of logged in users etc.? I am trying to understand how to do backups etc. and one of the things i´m trying to figure out is if it´s possible to do a backup when users are logged in or if I have to have a scheduled process or something that throws all users out?

I use Navicat to access my database and I also use it to make a backup right before publishing. As far as I know, you cannot set a retention policy in Navicat otherwise I would probably just use it.

I don't see where backups interfere with user operation at all except for the CPU performance which goes up considerably during the backup.

Another point on AutoBackup is that it can run as a service.
