Importing CSV query

Hey guys,

Does the import template feature allow for splitting of objects? For instance, if I have a CSV that contains the Company, Client and Contact details, can I split it on import so that it'll create a Company with Clients inside it and Contacts inside those?

Or is Aware smart enough that I can split the actual CSV sheet and import 3x basically, according to Hierarachy. So import all of the Companies, then import Clients (leaving Company name in, which will hopefully assign it to that Company) then import Contacts (leaving Client name in, which will hopefully assign it to that Client)

I have a feeling I might have to go this route 🙁

OK, cool, I figured it out. I was just being stupid. But talking to myself here is helping.

Question: how can I import and UPDATE instead of create? I've tried the various settings and it keeps creating new Clients instead of updating the current one. Also, I have Clients with multiple Contacts but I can't load them because they come up as new Clients with seperate Contacts.

Hi Mark,

Did you manage to get you clients to link up with your companies? If so how did you manage it, just by having the company name inside the clients csv?

I realized that I on my first attempt, I set everything to be an update key (bad idea) and on my second attempt, I set only the name to be the update key (which also errored out) causing my frustration and my previous posts. Then I went for a walk, came back and realized that I'd left in all of the previous test duplicates. Deleted all but one, tried again, updated fine. Going to try with Contacts but I imagine it should work.

@Andy, yeah, I had a CompanyName column and mapped that to a path Company.Name.
