For a list display, can icons (such as edit or delete) be relocated from the lines of a list to the header of that list?
The example below is from the AwareIM Library Sample application, Correspondence section.
I am intrigued by the first column of checkboxes, which suggests that AwareIM allows the selection of individual lines in such a display, much like AlphaFive or Access does with their grid/datasheet controls.
Can the delete icon be positioned in the title bar (Correspondence) like the other icons?
If not, can the delete icon be positioned in the line used for searching by last name?
One of the graphical features that makes desktop applications more attractive, in my opinion, is not wasting screen real estate on repeating icons. Note that in the display below, from the Library demo application, half of a line is devoted to icons! Icons used this way is like application acne.
I would like to move the icons to a header position, select the records by means of the checkmark, and then press a delete icon to delete all selected records.
I have found by experimentation, that selecting several records, and clicking the delete icon on one selected record, does not delete all selected records, only the record for which the icon was clicked.
Is this relocation of icons technically feasible with a web applicaton? Is is even possible with AwareIM?
How about selecting an individual record, right clicking for a popup, and then selecting delete?
How do you attach a file such as a word document to one of these forum postings. I'm can't find a paperclip icon, and cut and paste doesn't work.
