Dynamically updating form fields

I'm looking for a way to do a dynamically updating date dropdown.

For instance, if we are in August the initial value needs to be August 2013 and the other values need to be the next 17 months, displaying month and year.

Then next month, August will fall away and the next month will be added at the bottom to the running order.

I'm assuming you aren't asking about changing the built in dialog for a date type attribute, but instead a text attribute or reference attribute that happens to carry info about dates. Is that correct?

Yes, that's right.

It would pull in the month and year we are in, but as text, and then the dropdowns would basically be a monthly increase for the next 12 months.

So hypothetically, we're in August 2013 (initial value) and the dropdown would display
August 2013
September 2013
October 2013
November 2013
Dec/Jan 2013
February 2014
March 2014
April 2014
May 2014
June 2014
July 2014
August 2014

Also, December January are combined into one.

I managed to get it to do this with normal date elements 06/2013 etc but I need it to display as text.

Oneway I can come up with Mark is to have a BO with these attributes:

Date_selected: type: text -- example: August 2013
First_show_date -- type: date -- first date this record would appear in drop down
No_show_after_date: type: date -- after this date, this record would no longer show on the drop down list

If you build these records manually, you should be able to write a query that would show them at appropriate times using the "first show" and "no show after" dates.
