Word v OpenOffice

RocketRod

Installed Open office on my server which opens MS Word files ok. However cannot create documents from within AwareIM using a Word template as it must be specifically looking for Word?

Anyone have experience with this? Is that the case support?

I'm obviously trying to get away from having to purchase MS Office. Associated the Word file extension with Open Office but that still didn't seem to help.

Search for an old post of mine, about using RTF docs, it may be useful.

Thanks. Found your post and can understand the solution. However I can't import an rtf document into a text document template. It says invalid tag as it is reading and trying to interporate all the rtf formatting tags.

What's the trick to import an rtf document into a document template thats marked as text document?

Sorry Rod - it was a million years ago that we did it and I can't remember anything special we did - but our formatting wasn't over the top so maybe that is the difference, we actually deleted the business space too as the product didn't go anywhere so I can't even check.

No worries. Thanks for the pointers anyway.

Support can you shed some light on how the tags are interpreted in a document? It would be nice if we had some function that just acted as a string replacement within the document. This way we could use any document type. Of course we wouldn't be able to do LIST type functionality but I for one would just like simple tag replacment for now.

Rod - we just had to recreate this, and can confirm that it was VERY picky about the formatting we applied in the rtf document. It threw errors if the document had tabs or double spaces. When we removed those it works ok.

Just try building your template little by little.

Thanks for the insight.
