Storage limits (attachments etc.) per user?

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has created a rule or set of rules which calculate the size of files any individual user has throughout their account (attachments e.g. using document management functions)? also connected to this a rule or set of rules which restrict the users "storage limit" (i.e. the total size of data the user can store throughout their account).

The calculated size should also be something that should be displayed to the users to show them their current storage size.

You could use the FILE_SIZE function to accomplish this. Interesting idea.

I use this function to limit attachments and such but it's easy to envision a process to aggregate the file sizes per account/customer/person. Also easy to envision a graph/gauge to display it.

Come to think of it, easy to envision just about anything in AwareIM...

Thanks for the tips. I´ll play around with the FILE_SIZE function a bit and keep envisioning 😉.
Regarding the graph/gauge, is it possible you think to display a horizontal linear gauge with e.g. (1---------50---------100) markers and the FILE_SIZE function to "populate" this gauge with current storage size/limit status?

I forgot to mention, the thought is to display this gauge as a part of a user settings form.

kkloson how have you managed to limit user file sizes on attachments? Have you managed to do it PRIOR to uploading? As I can't work out a way that when the user clicks on the document button and they receive the browse screen to locate their file how you then stop them clicking the upload button?

Could be easier. Simple rule in BO that has a document attribute named Doc.

If FILE_SIZE(Doc.FileName)>5000000 Then
REPORT ERROR 'File may not exceed 5 MB in size.'

Yes thanks. But this would b after the file uploaded? I want to stop the user early on so they don't have to wait for the upload. Can that b done or does report error achieve that?

I suppose it's after the upload. I don't see how else it can get the file size unless the file is on the server.
