Filter Drop Down data

I Have a BO called Entity
EntityCode Plain Text
EntityDescription Plain Text

I have users who can have any number of Entity assigned to them and each Entity can be assigned to
many people.

Hence I have a BO called UserEntities
EntityUser RegularUser
Entity Entity

Now, when I want to Add a new UserEntities record I am displaying the RegularUser record which
has the table of UserEntities showing. I have a Add button n that table to invoke a UserEntities
Main form for create and edit of the UserEntity and the Entity is a drop down control so the user
can select an Entity.

Of course I would like the drop down NOT to show the Entities that have already been assigned
to the User

So, in the Filter of the drop down I have tried so many variations but cannot work out the right query to use.
Things like….

FIND Entity WHERE NOT(EXISTS UserEntities WHERE (UserEntities.EntityUser=ThisRegularUser AND Entity=UserEntities.Entity))

FIND Entity WHERE NOT(EXISTS UserEntities WHERE (UserEntities.EntityUser=RegularUser AND Entity IN UserEntities.Entity))

Both return all Entities in the list.

Can anyone please suggest where I might have messed up here.

Hi Tom.

I have tried it out but still something wrong.

When I use the following Query called from a button on the UserEntities form it works perfectly. BUT, when I use the same Query as the filter for the DropDown is still shows all of the Entities.

FIND Entity WHERE COUNT UserEntities WHERE (Entity IN UserEntities.Entity AND ThisRegularUser=UserEntities.EntityUser)=0

Any idea why?

Am I missing something?

Have you tried changing ThisRegularUser to LoggedInRegularUser?

The user i am testing against is the user on the screen rather than the LoggedInUser Tom.

I have now messed around with this trying to find a solution for 5 days and I am coming to the conclusion that there is a bug.

However, given my meager experience with Aware I am hesitant to claim that as I am hopeful someone will know the reason it does not work.

I have created a sample BSV to demonstrate the problem. When you load it, it will automatically create some sample data.

Select Users from the top menu.
Edit a User.
You will see the User Record including a table of that Users Entities.

Click Add New and select a new Entity from the drop down and Click Create
The Table wil now show that added User Entity.

Now Click the NonExistantEntities button next to Add New. You will see all of the Entities EXCEPT the one that has been added already. This is calling a Query that shows only Non Existant Entities.

Here is a screenshot:

Now Click the Add New button again and test the Drop Down. This is filtered by EXACTLY the same query as just shown BUT still shows ALL of the Entities as available for selection.

Would love someone to explain the problem if possible.

Also have you checked Tomcat output when the filter is run? It may have some clues as to what's going on

Answer found in case others have the same issue.

Thanx to aware_support have discovered the problem.

The UserEntities is out of context when adding a new record.

Hence, the following change works perfectly.

FIND Entity WHERE COUNT UserEntities WHERE (Entity IN UserEntities.Entity AND UserEntities.EntityUser=ThisUserEntities.EntityUser)=0
