User guide indicates you need to specify an x and y value for image scaling. Are there any 'undocumented' options that we should know about?

Is there a way to scale an image proportionately specifying the size for one side only or are the posts going back to 2009 that I have read still valid . . . write a javascript plugin!

Sorry, didn't realize you were referring to this function already. If you use this function with two parameters rather than 3, the second parameter is interpreted as scale (proportional)

OK, so SCALE_IMAGE(Object.OrgImage, 30) will scale the image by 30%.

Are there any plans on some new image functions ?

IMAGE_WIDTH & IMAGE_HEIGHT for example would work great with SCALE_IMAGE

If a user uploads an image IMAGE_WIDTH>2500 THEN SCALE_IMAGE 50%. If a user uploads an image IMAGE_WIDTH>1200 THEN SCALE_IMAGE 25% . . . . . Or some other implementation of the same. It would be a pity to scale an image that is 100x100 pixels.

If document storage by default is in the database and aware_support really believes there should be no need to store in the file system can AIM please have the functions to manage these uploads. With 'mobile' becoming a more important feature of AIM I would hope we could manage those users uploading 2500x1200 images from their smartphones.

For now the best thing to do is to check the image based on file size, not by height or width. The function for this is available.

I could use 3 parameters, but i need to know if its horizontal or vertical image or i can't used it the way its supposed to...

No you need to define it as

SCALE_IMAGE(Object.OrgImage, 30)

where 30 is the percentage. There is no way to deal with images apart from scale and size unless you write or integrate some javascript etc.

Given the move to social style UI's I would also like to see some improvement in image handling to better deal with user Avatars.

Image shortcuts should be pointers, so if an avatar is updated by the user the changes are reflected. Currently the image is stored with the instance and changes are only applied if the record is updated.

Uploading a client's Logo and/or a User's profile pic is very common when configuring and the image manipulation is a big workaround at the moment (we run scripts to deal with it), would very much like Aware to deal with it automatically.

Correct, the "Max Size" of an attachment is a must feature.

Also, I am not sure what item #1 above does to database size, but if the image is duplicated for each instance that could really pack on some weight.

I tried to create an admin query to show any RegularUser instance with a file over 15Kb, but did not see an obvious way to do so. The image field is not available in the attributes list. Can that be done?

The FILE_SIZE function returns the size of an attribute of the Document type.

what am I missing? The example given for FILE_SIZE in the documentation is used in conjunction with Display Message. As I understand it there is no means to use that returned value to kick off a process or as an if for a rule. Am I misunderstanding that?

Had a client upload about 60 avatar photos today for their users, many shapes and sizes... but not a single one under 700K, some over 1.5MB. It took me about 3 hours but I downloaded them all re-sized them by hand and re-uploaded them all. Not looking forward to the next client who ignores the 100px by 100px recommendation in the field descriptor. So I would really love to see even a basic limit, like max file size or a function to allow the on for image attributes.
