Updating procedure

I know that there was in the past a discussion going on about the update procedure of Aware.
Now, after two year I was forced to update (IE 9 support) and noticed that this still is a pain.

When is Aware giving us a normal procedure so that:

my translations stay
my theme's stay
my port settings stay
aso....

There was a promise that this should be improved, but when do you do it???

There was a problem with translations that was fixed. There were also many improvements in the area of preserving installation settings and custom work (plugins etc). In 5.5 most of your previous settings should be preserved. If they are not, please report a bug.

Ok, i did an upgrade to 5.3, but i had to go back to 5.1 because of other problems.
So if i go again from 5.1 to 5.5 there will be no problem? It is a lot of work and i do not want to do it again and again....

One of the versions (5.3?) allows you to save/import translations as a file. This is what you need to do and then you will always be able to import your translations
