Some advice about images required

Scenario:

We need to store up to 10 images per instance of a BO in both high resolution (say 3MB each) and low resolution (say 200KB) for about 2500 instances. These images will be uploaded via AwareIM form along with other data relevant to each instance.

I have no experience with managing large volumes of images and can only imagine that carrying images of this size inside the MySql database will slow AwareIM down terribly.

The images need to be retrieved to serve a website which will draw related information directly from the same MySql database that AwareIM uses (or alternatively a mirror).

Can anyone advise me on the best route to take to

store the images
provide the images and related data for easy and effective retrieval

We are not developing the actual website - this will be done by someone else - we just have to provide the data "on a platter".

btw, if you use the file system to store your images and you store them in the AwareIM folder they will be available to anyone.

So from a secure perspective it would be a good idea to store the files outside your webapp folder and then when retrieving the image do it by way of a non persisted object process to retrieve the image back onto the form for view or download

Thanks ACDC. This solution could work.

Now to add another complication: if I need to replicate that data for a failover server, as far as I understand it, I would need to export the same file to two locations, one to the local server and one to the failover server, right?

Using EXPORT will let you do this to the local server

As to the fail over server it depends where the server is, if its on the same network, EXPORT to a shared folder may work or alternatively let an external ftp or backup program handle the replicate process using the EXPORTED file as the source
