Determining the AVG of a group

I am re-posting the question I wrote on the Tips and Tricks, I figured I must have put the question in the wrong forum group. Someone please help show me what I've been doing so wrong. Thank you in advance.

I have these business objects and attributes, among others:

BO: Employees ATTRIBUTES: Name, DateHired, CurrentDate, YearsService

BO: JobTitlesAll ATTRIBUTE: JobTitle

BO: JobDescriptions ATTRIBUTES: JobTitle, AverageYrsService

Both the Employees and the JobDescriptions are related to JobTitlesAll as peers, and multiples are allowed.

Questions:

Someone please help show me what I've been doing so wrong?

These are what I have done so far, and they don't work at all:

1.) Employees.YearsService=AVG JobDescriptions.AverageYrsService WHERE (JobDescriptions IN JobDescriptions.JobTitle)

2.) Employees.YearsService=Employees.DateHired-SUM Employees.CurrentDate

To clarify, I am trying to show the Average Years of Service Per Job Title in the JobDescriptions BO.

I am also trying to show the Total Years of Service Per Employee in the Employee BO.

For Employees. YearsService you could use the AGE function as a rule in the BO

So Employees.YearsService = AGE(Employees.DateHired)

If you put it as a rule in the employees BO it will be recalculated every time the BO is updated

You also really need a referenced attribute in JobDescriptions which references all the employees with that job description lets call it JobDesciptions.Employees

Then in JobDescriptions the rule would be

JobDescriptions.AverageYrsService=AVG(Employees.YearsService WHERE Emloyees IN JobDecriptions.Employees)

your BO descriptions didn't say what these references ae called so not easy to write the exact code for you. If JobTitleAll contains the reference to the employees, you may be able to work out from the above example how to do it

I had the reference between Employees and JobDescription which I did not mention in my earlier posts. It is an attribute called Incumbents.
