Download files from server

Hello!

I have an application that works in the same server where I have my AwareIM app. This applications generates a PDF file and a XML file.

I used to import those files to the AwareIM application, but now it seems to be slow when I upload these files. So I want to try this.

Insted of importing, I want the user to access them by a link. I used this, but it is not working. (I saw this in a post here)

In a HTML Cell type:

<a ref='C:/Felectronica/Conector/envio/enviados/F0<<Factura.XFolio>>.PDF'>Descargar PDF</a>

alse tryed..

It seems like a link, but none worked.

Any tips?

links need to be relative, C:/... will point to the users local machine. So unless they have the file, on their machine it's not going to be found. The files will also need o be accessible to the sever server in order to be accessible.

here is an example which grabs my logo from the root of my server

so you could do something like...

<a href="http://yourURL/YourDocFolder/YourDocName.pfd">A Document</a>

Im fixing this. I was thinking about it, but I really didnt want to give access via an FTP, or web server, because in some way will make the files available for more people.

I´ll find a way to keep security.

Yes, but honestly I dont like it.

I installed Filezilla server and everything OK. Then, created a anonymus account without listing permision.

Then with port open, I just put a link like this in the form.

<a href='ftp://123.209.xx.65/F0<<Factura.XFolio>>.PDF'>Descargar PDF</a>

It does work, but again the Invoices has an autonumeric value, so anyone can be able to download documents knowing the files.
Like: Invoice No. F0A100.PDF
If they just know 1 invoice number they can download F0A100.PDF, F0A101.PDF, F0A102.PDF as so on.. Even if that document does not belong to them.

If anyone has a better solution it is welcomed...

I can't remember for sure, but I'm thinking some of the concepts in this Tip (or one of the other tips referenced in this post) might help:

Interesting problem, I have looked for a solution for this too. Best we came up with:

a) generate a random key and make it a big one
b) create a directory with that key as the directory name
c) place your invoice in that directory

This just makes it harder to find and still isn't secure (if you know the key then you can find the files). Depending on the use you could:

d) move the file while it is needed
e) delete the file and directory after it is used

d) and e) obviously depend very much on your specific need

(in the end we just created an aware process button to import them into an Aware attribute when a user needed to access it - fyi, we were importing a lot of attachments from an old SugarCRM application, we moved the files across and the files are sitting outside the webserver thus can't be accessed directly)
