Picture memory

Anyone upload and display pictures? In my app they just take a while to display. Thumbnails as well. have increased the memory of JBOSS which helps a little bit but not enough.

Hi Rod, I've notice this in certain situations, but found it to be related to the image's data size and/or type. To my knowledge aware will visually resize, but not make thumbs so even a tiny image in a querry grid can 'weigh' quite a bit in terms of data size.

How big are the images?
How many on the page?
Are you creating the thumbs or just setting a display size in Aware?
Is it still slow after the images have cached?

Maybe run a fiddler trace and check the data transmit times and payload size.

Personally, I think would be really nice to have a built in resampler and/or MAX data size for images.

Not sure but I have no control over what picture size users upload do I?
When shown normal size, two. When thumbnails I wont to show say 20.
Just setting a display size as I don't know how to create my own thumbnails from pictures stored in AwareIM?
Slightly quicker but still slow.

I think your suggestion is a good one re a built in tool to handle pictures more effectively especially as the world has shifted to displaying data in a more visual form wherever possible.

Support any thoughts on what might be coming?

Really hard to say. If images are big they are likely to be slow. We do have a plugin somewhere that allows you to scale images, but I don't remember all details of this off the top of my head.

I would say size of the image should be the biggest factor in performance.

Given the move towards visualization of data, I think this would be a 'nice to have' standard function.

There's actually a function called SCALE IMAGE

In my app used to happen the same thing, so now we resize every image before put it on the system...not good, but it works...

It would be very nice to have this as a standard in AwareIM.

Sorry for misleading you - this function is the plugin that I was talking about. We will add this function as standard in the next release. If you don't want to wait you can purchase this as a plugin for $100
