Problem in creating a MS Word XML document

Hi all,

AwareIM announced in their latest version release the ability of creating MS Word documents in Linux. As far as I understand this means you can create MS Word documents without an MS Word installation. I am currently testing this feature running on a Windows machine but without MS Word being installed.

In AwareIM I created a report with an imported docx file I generated on a different Machine with Office 2007 installed. The imported document template only consists of one tag querying one single parameter in a Business Object I created. When I log into the testing mode and try to create the Word file, AwareIM offers me to download a doc file which is exactly the same as my original template, i.e. the tag has not been replaced with the correct parameter value.

In order to check if I have done everything correctly, I also created a text document with the same tag which gets properly replaced when generated in the testing mode.

Does anyone know whether this is caused by an incorrect docx file or if the MS Word XML engine only works in Linux?

I had this problem but discovered I was using the wrong parameter.

I set an attribute called Members.RenewalLetter and then set Members.RenewalLetter=UserDefDoc.UDD_Template (which holds the uploaded document.

THIS DID NOT WORK and produced the result you described. No conversion took place - you jusst get a document with the tags in

When I set Members.RenewalLetter=UserDefDoc.UDD_Name followed by
CREATE BulkText WITH BulkText.Attachment1=Members.RenewalLetter (in my case I was sending the letter as an attachment) IT ALL WORKED FINE

It was strange because UDD_Name is just a plain text attribute and I suspect that Members.RenewalLetter=UserDefDoc would have worked.

The document was put in context with a preceding line FIND UserDefDoc WHERE UserDefDoc.UDD_Name='Renewal Letter'

I allow individual letters to be sent to members by using a form process - CREATE DOCUMENT with the "Let users choose document" radio button clicked. AwareIM seems to take care of everything using this method

MS XML engine has been broken in builds 1546,1548. We will release a patch with the fix. It should be OK in builds prior to these ones (1539 etc)

Thank you for your reply. We have tried out this feature using built 1549 and found the XML engine is now working.
We now also understand that we need to use a .xml file as a template. However, it appears the document generation is then very similar to what is being done for the html and text documents. Which means it is not possible to use subdocuments, is that correct? However, for our purposes this is vital. Are you planning to implement such a feature in the near future? Do you have a date in mind? Knowing a release date is critical to us.

Subdocuments are not supported in the current XML engine (this is a limitation). We are not planning to add them in the near future, but if you are prepared to pay for the development please send a message to support@awareim.com
