Image Shortcuts question

I am hoping to get some info on how shortcuts with images work.

I have created an Shortcut from most BO's back to RegularUser.Avatar and which should a small image in a query. The problem is if the image changes, then the new image is not shown unless that record is saved.

All other data is dynamic, so I thought it might be a caching issue, but the path does change and clearing cache does not work. When I looked in the database (thinking maybe a stored proc could resolve the issues) the shortcut is not in the table so this has me a little stumped as to why a record save would have any impact.

Any ideas? This is taking some of the excitement away from the Activity stream we just launched for our users.

Are you showing the avatar icon within an html code ? If so the browser and even Tomcat won't follow the new icon if the icon change, cleaning cache does not help...

I'm not sure I follow, but I'm using the out-of-the-box feature of the grid to show an image in the grid. I also have a custom presentation which inserts the image using a {avatar} placeholder. Both have the same behavior.

Yes, cache has no effect but saving the records does... it a shortcut so I don't get why a save has any impact. So my question was more related to how the shortcut is maintained for images, since data behaves differently.

there is a trick to get shortcuts to dynamically fire by the use of a updating a timestamp if the record is new or was changed, maybe somewhere herein lies the solution :

How did you end up solving this?

I am still working on what to do with this.

The easiest solution I could think of is to run an update process if the users changes their avatar. Unfortunately this is impractical and messy. So for now I have explained to the users that these will update when they make changes, it was disappointing.
