Using attribute value before post

Hi,

I have a problem that probably is very easy to solve but I have tried many things with no success. Here is my problem:

I have 3 BO: SampleCollection, DiagnosisGroup and Diagnosis
Both DiagnosisGroup and Diagnosis are attributes of SampleCollection (peer rel)

A SampleCollection has only one DiagnosisGroup
A SampleCollection has several Diagnosis of the same DiagnosisGroup
When a new SampleCollection is being created a DiagnosisGroup is selected from a dropdown list. Then several Diagnosis can be created (added).

Once a DiagnosisGroup is selected in the SampleCollection form, new Diagnosis can be added but here is the problem:
There is a website that has the code for diagnosis groups, inside the diagnosis groups is possible to find the codes for the new diagnoses. So, the Diagnosis form should have a hyperlink to the selected DiagnosisGroup before the Diagnosis is created to be able to find the code for the new Diagnosis.
The problem is that neither the SampleCollection or the Diagnosis are saved yet.

Here are the BOs:

DiagnosisGroup
Attributes:
Group: plain trext
Code: plain text
URL: plain text

Diagnosis
Attributes:
DiagnosisGroup: DiagnosisGroup
Code: plain text
Diagnosis: plain text

In the Diagnosis form I would like to have a hyperlink to the URL in DiagnosisGroup.URL to find the Code for Diagnosis. The DiagnosisGroup has been only chosen for the SampleCollection but the SampleCollection hasn’t been saved yet.

How can I know which is the selected DiagnosisGroup? Is there a way to have a sort of “global variable”, if so, how to handle it? Some known solution for this problem?

is diagnosis code or group a picklist? If so you could save the form automatically when the user enter the value using the presentation options.

Alternately break entry up into multiple forms, so the user is forced to save. In either case, without using javascript I think without first saving the record, I think it gets pretty complex.

Unfortunately, I can't split the form precisely there. The DiagnosisGroup, defines the Diagnosis. Maybe it is possible to capture the event when a field change in the form?
I tried with a process that defines a custom implementation of "Add New" button in the presentation of Diagnosis but still I can't know which is the selected DiagnosisGroup.

The process looks like this:

rule 1:ENTER NEW Diagnosis WITH Diagnosis.DiagnosisGroup=ThatDiagnosisGroup
rule 2😃iagnosis.DiagnosisURL=ThisDiagnosis.DiagnosisGroup.URL

(I tried "This", "That"...)

I'm missing a "rule 0" to save the actual SampleCollection.

I thought also about using a sort of global variable which is an ugly solution but it could work. The problem is that I don't like members having access to the SystemSettings BO (I don't know how to implement it either).

Any idea, comment, thought, suggestion... is very welcome!

Sorry, I forgot to answer the first question.
The DiagnosisGroup is presented as a drop down list. That's what you mean by Pick list, right? Or is it here where I'm missing something?

you could save the form when the user selects a DiagnosisGroup. To do so, open the attribute, click presentation options, then at the bottom of the form you will see the option.

Thanks for your help. I finally solved the problem using a global variable in the SystemSettings (DiagnosisForSearch).

In the SampleCollection BO I added the rule:

IF (SampleCollection.DiagnosisGroup WAS CHANGED) then SystemSettings.DiagnosisForSearch=SampleCollection.DiagnosisGroup.URL

In the Diagnosis BO the rule is:

Diagnosis.DiagnosisURL=SystemSettings.DiagnosisForSearch

Then, in the Diagnosis Main form I added an hyperlink to Diagnosis.DiagnosisURL.

It works perfectly even when I don't like the solution.

Ah, good idea, but do multiple people use this system? If so I think your solution creates a race condition.

It should be easy to resolve if you write the temp value to the LoggedInRegularUser as a value in the RegularUsers BO instead of SystemSettings.

Sorry for my late replay. I was doing many other things at work. Now I'm back to the application.
You are right, it is wrong to use the SystemSettings BO. I'll try the RegularUser and tell you about the results.

It didn't work with RegularUser. I created an attribute in RegularUser called DiagnosisForSearch and also the BO rule:

If SampleCollection.DiagnosisGroup WAS CHANGED Then
LoggedInRegularUser.DiagnosisForSearch=SampleCollection.DiagnosisGroup.URL
UPDATE LoggedInRegularUser

(The update was just testing)

Then I changed the rule for Diagnosis BO:

Diagnosis.DiagnosisURL=LoggedInRegularUser.DiagnosisForSearch

It is the same I did with SystemSettings but this time it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

looks ok to me, but need some more info. Where is the breakdown happening? I.e. is the value not getting written to RegUser, or is the form not updating after selection? I think it would be helpful to look at the logs to see where the process comes up short.

I add a hyperlink in the Diagnosis form to see if the regular user is being updated:

If I just replace "LoggedInRegularUser" by "SystemSettings" in both rules (for SampleCollection and Diagnosis), everything works perfectly. It seems to be a problem with the context of the RegularUser BO.

That's really odd, I have several processes which do a similar function the only difference is I do not use any if statement so my guess is the IF statement is not working as intended.

Maybe try changing WAS CHANGED to IS DEFINED or just remove the If statement all together as it seems redundant to me. I.e. if every save should write a new value to the LoggedInRegularUser, then WAS CHANGED (or any if statement) is redundant; you only need the actions.

Other than that I think you will need to open the logs to to proceed. Looking in the logs you can easily tell if the rule has been evaluated and added to the agenda or not.

I tried without if... no success...
Now I'm very confused. I used the "Library" BS as a base application to develop from there. The Library BS uses a BO called Member for the library members and the RegularUser BO is used for staff ad administrators (I'm not using the RegulaUser at all). If I decide to change the Member to RegularUser (-which is what I should do) it will be a headache to fix all the mess. Do you have a better suggestion? :cry:

Got it!!! The problem was that I should use SystemUser BO group instead. This group includes Member and RegularUser BOs. I added the attribute and the rule to Member BO and it works!

Hi again. I need help with the web interface. I'm a little bit confused with it.
I have almost configured my BS and want to improve the web interface. I created a HTML sidebar menu for the member visual perspective and in the logout button I have:

It works well.

In BBMRIRegister_startup.jsp I have a hyperlink like this:

When I enter user name and passowrd,it goes to:
http://localhost:8080/AwareIM/logonOp.aw?domain=BBMRICatalogue&testingMode=true

When I write user name and password, I get:

"Invalid credentials or access denied. Please try again"

Actually, what I want to do is to have the same BBMRIRegister_startup.jsp as the login page. I suppose I have to modify the logon.html and logonAdmin.html instead of trying to login from BBMRIRegister_startup.jsp?

Any suggestion is very welcome. I really lost with this.
