DELETE

I wish to delete an object via a BO edit form displayed from a query. I do not want to do it via a process from the query grid display.

Using the delete object operation type from within a form. The user clicks on the delete button and the user is returned to the query grid.
Using a process to do the deletion from within a form. The user clicks on the delete button and gets the message 'Unable to find the record, may have been deleted'. This is fine but it doesn't then close the form like option 1 and return the user to the query grid.

Is there anyway of having 2 above behave like 1?

Have you tried Checking the "Save when closed" box on the form?

Not sure if this would help, but may be worth a try.

You could also put a DISPLAY PERSPECTIVE in the process after the DELETE rule.

This would cause a refreshing of the VP, then the message you described will appear while the query is back on the screen.

Thanks Tom. The VP works except that it clears all the open tabs for the user?

Your thoughts did make me think a bit more laterally so I was able to solve it by:

Placing two buttons on my form DELETE and COMPLETE DELETION. Both have a visibility condition based on an attribute of the BO. If BO.Attribute <> 'Delete' then show button DELETE. If it does show COMPLETE DELETION.
The DELETE button still runs my process which I do some required processing but I've replaced the last step which was a delete of the object with a setting of the Bo.attribute to 'Delete'. Can override any attribute as the record is going to be deleted anyway!
Placed a refresh on the form for the process so after the user hits the DELETE button the form refreshes and shows the COMPLETE DELETION button. This is the standard DELETE operation so it deletes the record and returns to the query!

Woohoo.

Only issue is of course the user can exit with confirming the delete but I'll live with that.

A bit extra.

As the form has several tabs I clear them off by basing their applicability on the Bo.Attribute = 'Delete'.

Finally I've cleaned off most of the information on the main tab using the new applicability on form separators.

So the user is presented with a clean fresh look for the Complete deletion.
