Navigate to parent record

hi all, I am trying to find a way too allow my users to 'drill up' though my application. What I mean is:

Let's say a user is looking at a form for an object which is referenced to, and owned by another object. The user arrived at this form from a query, NOT by first going to the owner object and drilling down form a chart of objects.

Is there anyway to easily navigate to the owner object record directly from the owned object? i.e. a shortcut/link

I am hoping that I am just missing something obvious.

I was giving this some more thought and was wondering if the AwareApp.runQueryWithParams allow for the parameters to be passed from the correct record? If so, maybe I could do something like

Where:
Find Parent= a query to look up the parent record
BO.ID = the owned_object.owner_object.owner_id

or perhaps a AwareApp.startProcess is better way to go, but either way ca anyone counsel me about whether or not I am on the right track with this idea?

I'm going to try this out, but I don't have much experience on this type of operation so could spend a ton of time on trial and error not knowing if this is my fault or simply would not work even if I was on the money. Any guidance would be great, thanks!

You just need to write a process to do this and provide an operation or link to start the process:

The process could be as simple as

VIEW ChildObject.Parent

or if the child does not store a reference to the parent:

FIND Parent WHERE Child IN Parent.Children
VIEW Parent

Is FromForm working? for AwareApp processed? The link below fails to launch a process, and does not register in the logs

but this link fires a process, but failes to form 'this' context.

so the first one is acting like a syntax error or something.

I also tried 'startProcessFromForm' - same effect

Try this in Google Chrome and see what the Javascript console reports (Tools/Javascript console)

If the link is not working it must be some kind of a Javascript error which should be reported in the console. Either you are doing something wrong or there is a bug.

no JS error that I can fined, sounds like a bug maybe? I tired ever minor variations I could htink of incase it was a typo in the code, like fromform instead of FromForm.

Don't know if this additional info helps but i think it confirms the browsers is successfully processing the script. When the page loads in the ocnsole/scripts section it shows

"AwareApp.startProcessFromForm ('Drillup', 'main', this, true)"

However: if I change a case (i.e. fromForm) then it will toss an error like this

TypeError: Object #<Object> has no method 'startProcessfromForm'

I'm not expert, but to me that is indicative of the process getting doped outside of the client browser.[/b]

Do not use the following in links:
<a href="javascript:...">

Instead use this format:
<a href="#" onclick="AwareApp.functionName..." >

The User Guide is wrong and will be updated
