Visual Perspective Add

When "New" visual perspective is chosen the add/edit form appears with "Main", "Banner", "Top Bar", "Footer", and "Status" selected by default under "Frame". Under "Content" "Page" is selected but can't be deselected. "Menu" and "Settings" are disabled.

In order to use the query, report, process etc. selection I have to deselect "Banner", "Top Bar", "Footer", and "Status" and then select "Left" to enable "Menu" and "Settings" under "Content". Afterward to edit or change the form appears with only "Left" selected but I have to deselect and select again to enable "Menu" and "Settings".

Can someone explain the "why?" of this or point me to a place in the documentation that maps out and explains the controls, and combinations of settings, etc. of this very complex screen?

I'm only using a simple tree structure for Visual Perspectives. I remember the original version we purchased defaulted to that "Menu" and "Settings" in the "Content" frame.

Not sure about the documentation, but the "why" is so you can do/control a wide variety of aspects of the screen look and feel for a variety of users.

If you have a specific question, perhaps we can address that.

The problem is that, like other features, the documentation is just a reference of what can be done with little or no "How to actually do it". The references in the documentation are all circuitous. While your "mining down" looking for the "how to" it only gives a reference that takes you right back where you started from.

The visual perspective edit form on "Add New" appears with a whole lot of default settings but there is nothing to direct a new user as to where to start building a perspective. Just getting to the basic left side tree style menu was all trial and error for me. I had to figure out that under frames I had to deselect all the boxes under frames then select "Left" to get the "Content" frame "Menu and "Settings" selections enabled. Subsequently when you go to modify or add menu items you need to figure out that you have to deselect "Left" and then reselect it to add items to the tree menu.

The rest of it is still a mystery to me. For now I'll just stick with that left side tree menu. I'm sure there are other great combinations and permutations but I don't have the time to experiment with it.

Having been a programmer for many years I know what documentation written by programmers looks like.
