I understand that there are plans to enable pictures taken from a mobile device to be uploaded into an application. My questions are:
- What is the time frame please. A month, 3 , 6 or 12 months?
- Will the pictures be able to be automatically resized due to their large inherent size these days.
- Following on from 2 above, will the ability to resize pictures when uploaded be added into AwareIM. If so a time frame please as in 1 above.
Secondly, if the above is not to be done then I suggest that it would be great if a new attribute or function be incorporated which will provide for pictures (and documents) to be easily linked rather than uploaded. I am aware that workarounds have been done in the past and I have used them myself but they are not as efficient nor as neat as a new attribute or function would be. With the development and take up of mobile devices these days, the low cost of digital cameras and sites such as Facebook, everyone is taking pictures. Therefore the need to incorporate images into applications is also on the rise but due to their size they can gobble up disk space very quickly. This means that database sizes will grow dramatically full of large images which concerns me due to the way they are stored. So I think that something in this area needs to be addressed quickly and both options, that is linking and resizing would allow developers to keep up with modern trends.
