Suggestion with Importing and Exporting

I think I understand how this import and export will work, I just want verification and suggestion from other who has done this before.

I have an existing business space A that went live last April. Its got quite a few data now that I do not want to lose. I created a new business space B using A as the foundation and simply added new objects and attributes to it. So I know i should be able to export from A and import it to B since the original objects and attributes are identical.

The structure of the objects are as follows:

items
-- lineitems
-----kits
--------linekits
------------orders

So an Order has multiple kits, and each kit has multiple items. I can export all objects and its relationships from business space A . When it is time to import import it to business space B, should I start importing from items and move up or start at orders then move down? Or does it even matter?

It's better to start with objects at the bottom of the hierarchy, so when you import objects that refer to the objects below, they already exist in the system

What about those in between objects? in the case of items-lineitems-kits, my lineitems is between the items and kits. I imported the items first then the kits, and the data show up. but when I imported the lineitems, which basically tells which items and in a kit, I keep getting an error. Also when should I import the relationship files? both items and kits has relationship files created but the lineitems does not have one.

I think I know why I cannot re-establish the relationships between my objects when i import them from my old business object to the new one.

When I exported from the old BS, I exported the unique IDs which actually shows on the spreadsheet. But when I import it, the new BS creates a different IDs for each record being imported.

Any suggestions on how t go about it is appreciated.

Will it be OK if I do the data transfer from the old BS to the new BS using SQL? I am sure the tables/objects/atrributes are identical so I thought I should be able to just initialize first the new BS, and then on SQL do an insert statement to each of the objects with the data coming from a select statement from old BS objects. Example:

insert into newBS_items
select * from oldBS_items

Thanks it worked.

I used sql last night to transfer my data from my old business space to the new one. I tried trial and error for a few days using the import/export function bu I could not get it to work right. But the sql compying of the tables seem to have done the job and everything looks normal.
