This is not very technical, but works for us, we just select the tables from the basdb that we want (pretty much all of them except the Aware ones) then export them as a SQL script (we use Heidi SQL which is free and very good), open the script in Notepad++ and do 2 find and replaces on the table name prefix and db name.
It's basic but it works. Just export your old test db as a backup in case anything goes horribly wrong, then you can restore.
(I just noticed you're using derby, same logic but not sure if Heidi will work or not)
