Newbie question

Hi!
Im trying to make a project app for our company. I have looked at the sample project app but i want to be able able to add additional stages under the first and so on, if possible using the same object.
I have given the stage object two additional attributes: overstage and understage (great names I know 😉 witch are references to itself.
Im able to create stages under each stage but after the first stage only the understage gets the data I want, not overstage or the project will get the references right.
Is it possible to do it this way or will I have to create a stage2, stage3 and so on for as many “understages” I want the app to be able to handle?

It's impossible to help you with the information your provided. You need to explain in detail the objects that you have already and what you are trying to achieve.

Have you looked at the sample app? Even so I can see how you could find my first post confusing🙂
Basically its the same app but I have added 2 attributes, overstage and understage, witch could have been called parentstage and childstage witch would make more sense. These attributes are references to the stage object (itself). I basically want to be able to divide each stage into to multiple minor stages, and if necessary each of those into even smaller ones, if the projects get that big.
I got no problem getting the parent stages to work, but when I try to add childstages under these from the edit stage form these stages wont get the reference to the project or the parentstage references right, they’re just blank. But the parent object gets its references to these childstages right and lists them correctly.
I hope I made more sense this time around?
Im probably just missing something trivial and would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Did you add any rules to initialise references to the parent? They won't appear automatically unless you initialise them properly. You may need to either add business rules to initialise them or create a process that will initialise them to the parent object: ENTER NEW WITH ...

Take a look at a more complex sample apps, such as CRM, Library etc and make sure you read the Configuration Case Study document.

I can get the values to the child object now by starting a process from the parent object with this rule: ENTER NEW Stage WITH Stage.ParentStage=Stage, Stage.Project=Stage.Project USING Main

The problem now is that the parent wont get the childStage reference. How can i get it to reference the object created using the above rule? Do i have to add a rule to the Stage object and what should it look like?

The parent will automatically get the reference to the child once reference to the parent has been set in the child, PROVIDE that you have created the relationship between parent and child properly. The relationship should have a matching between two attributes in the object

I did try what you sad about matching attributes earlier but must have done something wrong as i got an integrity error. Deleted both attributes and created new ones, now it works perfectly 🙂
