Query Display (grid) Reference Attribute

I have a BO, Actions, which uses a 1:1 reference to RegularUser.Display Name, and 1:1 with Goals.Title to allow Actions to be assigned to a just and a parent goal. Both are presented as a drop downs and Multiple Selections are NOT allowed, not is inline editing.

I am tring to reutrn a query of Actions which shows the:

Actions.Item | Actions.Goal.Title | Actions.RegularUser.DisplayName

Which would give me a nice list of

What | Which Goal | Which User

My issue is that I the Actions.Goal.Title and Actions.RegularUser.DisplayName at not availbile for display! I could understand if this was a Many:1 display, but this is a single value. Am I missing something obvious?

I was thinking I could write my on SQL, but I was planning to use this as the result fo a form based query (search) so the SQL is non-modifiable.

The only work around I can think of is to create two forms, two fields, and some rules for each reference attribute but give them the same label. This wouldallow seperate fields for viewing in grid vs. editing. but be transpatent to the user. However this is not very elegant other a good design.

Any ideas on the subject are welcome.
