I am in the process of testing Runtime deployments again and would like to know how to handle the following potential scenario with regards to licensing.
Scenario:
I am at a clients site to complete an install that is going to be utilizing
- Runtime Deployment
- Tomcat 6
- Oracle
- SSL
- AwareIM folder rename procedure
- Additional Themes
In this scenario it is a must that I am on site to ensure that everything flows as smoothly as possible.
Question:
It is obviously not desirable during this installation process to be waiting for a product key to activate the runtime deployment assuming that you only have the product id when the runtime is actually installed. Which I believe is needed to generate the product key. Is there any way to purchase and have the product key ready ahead of time.
In a large corporate installation scenario it is not in the best interest of customer confidence to be logging into an outside site to gain the ability to activate your application.
I am opened to suggestions/tips and corrections if my assumption of the current process flow is incorrect.
P.S.
As a side note regarding product keys. I noticed when doing a recent upgrade on the server to 1412 that the product key value extended past the limits of the text box is was housed in. This prohibited me from seeing the entire key when trying to activate the new version. I was able to finally get the full product key by trying different browsers with different resolutions and zoom ratios. This was a frightening situation for about twenty minutes. I was afraid my server was down until Monday as this installation occurred over the weekend in the late evening.
