Immediate value validation/edit

Is there a way to make a rule execute immediately on a new instance attribute or change to an existing? I would like to test for a duplicate on entry of the first field of a form, display an error, and keep the user at that field until a correction is made. I have a nice rule that does the duplicate check but it only shows as an error after the create button is pressed.

Have you tried marking the validation rules as executing dynamically in the Advanced tab of the rule editor?

Yes I have. But still there is no error displayed until the user presses the "Create" button after finishing entering all the instance data fields. The object is to not have the user continue entering data for an invalid ID which is the first field entered.

This is a head down keyboard intensive operation. An error on the 1st field or 2nd field as soon as the data is entered would greatly improve the new instance creation flow.

Now I'm only using the basic default Aware operations. If there is something more sophisticated without getting into VB or Java programing I would like to know.
