I'll continue this thread with my concern, as some groundwork for my question is already here.
I have a set of 14 documents, all PDFs, that my users need to be able to print, and the system will be hosted, so printing them in a hosting center will not be appropriate. I cannot consolidate the documents with the report designer because, while it has been strong enough for the individual documents, it does not have the feature set to combine them all.
I read in the manual under "PRINT FORM" that I can only send "PRINT DOCUMENT" to the server. (I would suggest adding this point under the "PRINT DOCUMENT" section of the manual, as it only refers to "default printer," which is subject to interpretation -- my browser session has a "default printer."
Anyway, asking my users to VIEW DOCUMENT 14 times (even though I can sequentially force feed them) and execute a print command 14 times is a bit onerous, so I need something a bit more user friendly.
So, finally a question: Has anyone dealt with utilities that combine PDFs into a single document? I have done this with Acrobat for one-off uses, but using Adobe for this functionality in a server mode has a high price tag. I am thinking I'll have to output my 14 documents to a folder on the server in a concurrency-safe fashion, run such a utility to combine the documents, if I can find one and then "VIEW DOCUMENT" the combined document and let my users print it with Acrobat Reader (once).
Any experience or suggested utilities would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
