Uploading files to server?

BenHayat

Can Aware upload files to server as "Individual" files on the server directory?
If yes, can we do multiple files at a time?

Does Aware have functions to create directory, rename files, Delete files, Get file size or file extension on the server?

You had mentioned Aware has support for TreeView. Is there an online sample of TreeView showing data from database in hierarchical format?

These are the things that client is asking me and want to know if Aware can do it, without going through Java Plugins?

Thank you in advance!

See User Guide for:
MAKE DIRECTORY Action
DELETE FILE Action

Also in "Miscellaneous Functions" section of the User Guide:
FILE_EXISTS
FILE_NAME
FILE_EXTENSION
FILE_SIZE
FILE_LAST_MODIFIED

As far as renaming, you can not do that directly through a function, but you could IMPORT to a BO attribute, then change the name & export under a new name.

re: import ..

I should have referred you to IMPORT DOCUMENT and EXPORT DOCUMENT in the documentation.

Tom, so you're saying the uploading is performed via the import routine. Again, just wanted to clarify that the user may want to upload a PDF file to be stored on server directory and not embedded into database. Once the file is on the server, I would then need to provide a hyperlink to that file so other users can download the file.

Aware IM always stores files(documents) in the database. The link to download a file from the database can be easily provided.

IMPORT routine is not necessary for uploading files - it is a built-in capability of Aware IM. Tom only mentioned import as one of the ways to do renaming.

Please read about the attributes of Document type in the User Guide and look at the CRM sample application where they are used in several places.

As far as TreeView is concerned we do not have it in sample applications, but we have our own test harness that uses them. If you want we can send it to you. Also, look at this product http://www.idronic.com if you like. This was done using Aware IM and it contains a TreeView of documents (with full document support)

Could you tell me how I would create a link to a document that's in my database?

Alan,

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but thought you might be interested:

tford,
Yes I did see that, and may try to do it that way. I prefer the files to be external to the database, if I can figure out how to make it all work properly.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi!
Is it possible to auto-rename newly uploaded files (autotranslit filenames or make it as number by default) by some rule in awareim?

I need it because files that are uploaded in cyrillic in awareim when they are sent to user in notification as an attachment filenames are being corrupted when they are received in external email service (although these files can be opened in awareim and filenames displaying correctly in awareim).

I suppose that it is attachments encoding problem (utf-8 is not supported in notifications attachments when sending or receiving).

Multiple file upload is now supported in version 5.5
