Integration with Facebook

Hi AwareIM Support team,

here is a question that might also be of interest to a few other forum members.

Is there a possibility to connect an AwareIM application with Facebook to update e.g. personal details or contact details of registered users in the AwareIM application? No pictures or files need to be transferred into AwareIM. Only data. This update should be done on a daily or weekly basis.

Of course data protection would kick in here. There fore our customer would have an own Facebook account so that only the data of these registered 'friends' would have to be sync with the AwareIM application.

It depends on whether Facebook offer any web services to interact with their data. Do you know anything about this?

If they do, then it could be done using Aware IM services or by writing a plug-in.

I was thinking about some FB interaction. Most of their integration is simplified thought widgets based on a URL string. Which got me wondering, does Aware support deep linking? I.e. can I get to any record if I know the right URL/perimeters?

Just purely curiosity and play at this point, to see if I can allow users to use FB to comment on records and/or Like items from the database. Not even sure how I would use it, but it would be fun to play with 🙂

Not sure I understand the above post completely, but if you are wondering if it's possible to enter Aware IM and go to a particular record, check out the firstCommand parameter in the list of Aware IM startup URL parameters in the User Guide.

I would be interested to hear more about what you are able to integrate.

No time yet to play with it yet, but I think this approach with work within some limits. True deep linking is the best approach for basic integration however there are also a full suit of REST based Web Services for anyone with more skill than I have.

I believe that FB Like and FB comment capability would require there to be a permanent URL on the screen when the Like or Comment is posted by the user.

With support's suggestion to:

check out the firstCommand parameter in the list of Aware IM startup URL parameters in the User Guide.

this would allow an outside user to get to a particular record in AwareIM only if they know (or have been provided a link to) the specific URL.

Not sure exactly how you will work through this, but will e interested to know if you solve it.
