Protect from Delete

Unless I am missing something, I don't see a way to allow a user to view and modify a BO but not delete. Not an option in the access rules and not a PROTECT option as far as I can tell. Should this be controlled in a rule?

Let me expand on this. There is a document attribute in the object and I don't want a particular access level to be able to delete it. Change yes, delete no.

You can control the appearance of a Delete option (either menu item or Operation on a query) with settings by user.

Thanks Tom, but I think one of us doesn't understand the other. This is a document attribute on a business object. I want the user to be able to add/update the attribute, but not delete it. If I misunderstand, then please elaborate a bit.

Sorry about that.

The only idea I have is to make another attribute where you store a copy of the document & set up some rules so that once the Doc exists, it can never be blank again. If it becomes blank (i.e. deleted), then you can restore it from the backup attribute via rule.

Wow .. that sounds pretty complicated though.

Have you tried the PROTECT rule? In theory it should do exactly what you want...
