Text field with scroll bar

I have a text field on a form that is flagged as calculated. When using IE to display the field on a form, the scroll bar does not appear when the text flows past the field window.

If I turn off the calculated flag, it works fine. If I instead PROTECT the field, I get similiar results with the text not all appearing and no scroll bar to view.

I was able to get around it by instead using an HTML field on the form with the following code.

From what I can tell, this is just the way Microsoft thinks the browser should work.

<rant>Read only means I want to READ the contents of the text control and not allow and CHANGES by the user. I may need to keep my text control a certain size for any number of reasons, and thereby will need a scroll bar!</rant>

I find it unfathomable that they would assume this behavior.
