How to convert text to numbers

Hello, this is my first post in AwareIM Forum, and hope I can also help. I come from a MsAccess+SQL Server background.

I need to know how to apply a function, or code, to convert a field value (number) to text.

Example: 120.24 / One Hundredth Twenty 24/100

I need it in spanish, but I want to learn first in english. I appreciate your help.

This is a tough one. There's no support for this out-of-the-box, so a custom function needs to be written. If you can borrow the code from somewhere, you could integrate this in Aware IM. Otherwise, you'll need to write something of your own. I can't remember any standard library function in any programming language that can do this, but Googling for it may reveal something...

I assume you are writing checks. Here's an idea. You may have to "flesh" it out a bit but I believe the concept is sound.

Create a business object (NumberWordTable) with the number words you need.

Number
NumberWord

Populate the object
Number = 1
NumberWord = One

Number = 2
NumberWord = Two etc.

Number = 100
NumberWord = One Hundred

In a process use the CHARS_FROM_LEFT function to find the correct word

FIND NumberWordTable WHERE NumberWordTable.Number =

CHARS_FROM_LEFT(Amount,1)

CheckWord = NumberWord

and so on. You could put decimal points, slashes, and currency symbols in the NumberWordTable as well.

I've done similar to convert letters to phonetic alphabet:

A
Alpha
B
Bravo

etc.
