We have started to use Gmail and moving away from our Exchange servers. Can't seem to get Aware to talk to Gmail. Keep getting unable to connect to remote host smtp.gmail.com. Anyone using Gmail? Any help appreciated. Not sure if its something to do with SSL requirements of Gmail.

GMAIL ... Best of luck, you have my sympathies.

Does GMAIL smtp require authentication? if so you might need to set outgoing email properties using the communications channel "Use Values Below" rather than using the system settings - and then set up the authentication parameters.

Have you thought about a different mail server package on your AwareIM server - something like http://www.mailenable.com/standard_edition.asp (for standard - read FREE

It seems the smtp ssl port needs to be 465 and the pop port needs to be 995

i'm having the same trouble!
About the exchange servers were you able to connect either? How?

I have the two options...use exchange or gmail...but it's the same ports and stuff...

Yes no issues with connecting to Exchange or SMTP servers. Never got anywhere with GMail. If you can give me some info I'll see if I can help. Remember AwareIm can only connect to one mailbox on Exchange. Make sure the Username and password you use has access to that mailbox.

I have a configuration for the exchange and another configuration to access exchange using IMAP

using exchange i would have
exchange server: nlb.mailexch.exchange.local
configuration > proxy > URL: https://mail.exchange.locaweb.com.br

and the imap configuration would be
imap mail.exchange.locaweb.com.br port 993 using ssl
smtp mail.exchange.locaweb.com.br port 587 using TLS

This is all very complicated for the aware configuration(so simple)
So i was trying to use IMAP acces.
Ill try using the exhange configuration(nlb.mailexch....)

Any advise?

Tried a lot of combinations...nothing worked!
Do you remember how did you configured it?
