Support for REST or JSON for web services

Hi;

I was reading last night that Aware IM can provide itself as web service with SOAP protocol. However, phone device SDK use RESTful or JSON protocol. Is there plan to support these protocols for version 5? or soon after that?

I would much rather to use Aware IM rules, rather than building another Web Service to support Native [none browser] phone apps for Android and WP7.

Any advice or roadmap is appreciated.

There are no immediate plans to support these protocols, but we'll see how it goes. Aware IM version 5.0 WILL support browser-based web applications for mobile devices using XML-based AJAX calls. We are not sure about native applications at this stage since Aware IM is a platform for business applications.

Right. The Browser support for version 5 will be great for certain apps (like the ones we can run now on desktop). But there are times when native apps are written for Android or WP7 or iPhone, they need to connect to web service to get/send data (not via browser). The REST/JSON seem to be the most efficient way for these devices. And since Aware IM provides SOAP web service (Which is great for apps running on desktop, but not for phones), it would be great to extend the protocol to also support these other formats.

As I do more research in this area, if you like, I can provide more input, if you like!

I was looking at the Version history. 4.95 came out in Nov. 2010 and 4.9 came out in March 2010. So, I suspect, 5 will be around March/April. Just a guesstimate. I could be wrong 🙂

I thought these questions might fit with this topic. Is their an API or planned an API to interface with Adobe FlashPlayer or AIR. Aware would make a great backend for Adobe Apps.

Also are their plans for the mobile capabilities of Aware to be used in an offline mode on the phone and then sync when their is a decent cell connection?

I also hope more consideration would be given to an offline mode function.
