Hi Aware,

I have a question on how to best set up an environment.

I have two parts to this setup:

The 1st part of the setup is as follows:

CLIENT (single record for each client in the Client's Table)
COMPANY (single record for each company in the Company Table)
CLIENTCOMPANY Table (Multiple Client and Company Records)

A client can be a part of several companies.

Example:
Client 1 is a part of Company1 & Company2
Client 2 is a part of Company1 & Company3
Client 3 is a part of Company2

The Client should only be able to see and select the Companies that he is assigned to when creating an order.

The 2nd part of the setup is as follows:

A Client can establish an order and can select the company the order is attached to.

I have attempted to create this by creating a business object for CLIENT, COMPANY and CLIENTCOMPANY.

The CLIENTCOMPANY business object has attributes that are references to both the CLIENT and COMPANY business objects.

The problem I have is that there is nothing to use to select from when an order is placed. The CLIENT should only see the COMPANY that he is a part of when making an order.

Hi PEFS,

You can add a filter query to limit selection of companies when a client places an order. Assuming that object ClientOrder has attributes Client (which is set when the client starts placing an order) and Company (which the client should select from a list) the filter query for attribute ClientOrder.Company would look like this:

FIND Company WHERE EXISTS ClientCompany WHERE (ClientCompany.Client = Order.Client AND ClientCompany.Company = Company)

If you use presentation option 'Table of items' or 'Tree' for attribute ClientOrder.Company, the custom filter query should be entered in 'Generate Add Item button' - 'Filter Selection List'. If you use presentation option 'Drop down' for attribute ClientOrder.Company, the custom filter query should be entered in 'Filter' - 'Filter displayed items' on the right-hand side of the dialog.

Just a note on your design. If object ClientCompany exists only to implement the many-to-many relationship between Client and Company, you may not need it. Unless object ClientCompany has some attributes other than links to Client and Company (like a position of the client in the company), you can eliminate it by having matching attributes Client.Companies of type Company and Company.Clients of type Client with Multiple Allowed option set for both of the attributes. In this case the filter query would also become simpler and would look like this:

FIND Company WHERE Order.Client IN Company.Clients
