2 attributes referring to same reference attribute

Hi,

Is there any guideline concerning two reference attributes which refer to the same attribute of a referred BO ?

Here's my dilemma -

On an input form, I want the user to be able to search and find a client by one of two drop downs - searching by client name or searching by company.

The Client BO has both the client name and the company name attributes.

My other BO contains two reference attributes - ClientRef and CompanyRef which both refer to the Client BO. So I have two reference attributes in my other BO which refer to the same Client BO.

This allows me to have two drop downs on my form which can be configured to display selected attributes of Client (name and company respectively) and enables the user to select a client using either search.

But ..... and there's always a but ..... My process which uses the other BO fails intermittently with no error report in the logs - just that the process failed.

So I'm wondering is there some reason I shouldn't have created 2 attributes referring to same reference attribute on one form ?

To answer my own query anecdotally -

You can have multiple reference attributes to another object in a BO, but when you try to use those references in rules, the results are unpredictable !!
