EMail Handling

Hello
there exists BO's for Incoming and Outgoing EMails.
Could i modify them (add new fields) to categorize the messages?
For example:

one email belongs to 1 or more projects
one email belongs to 1 or more documents
one email belongs to 1 or more other (different) BO's
The link should no be made with a BO "Category", instead it should link the real BO's

The incoming and outgoing notifications create instances in theses BO.s You can add fields to the BO's and reference fields as well and even change the notifications to initialize fields on the BOs based on criteria within the email subject for example.

as far as i have seen, the name and attributes of incoming e-mails cannot be changed (see user documentation, page 99). Any idea?
But i have additionals questions to e-mail handling:
If i understand right, if the incoming e-mail has more than 2 attachments, all additional attachments are zipped into attachement 3. So far so good, but how could i extract those attachments (using AwareIM languague?) and store it either in a document BO or on disk?

You use the incoming notification to create your own BO which holds the attributes you require and that BO can have references, extra attributes etc. I never unzip the third attachment and just leave it so can't help you there I'm sorry. My users just open it up and read what's in there.

Hi RocketRod,
the business case is to receive an email and store its attachments (unzip the last attachment 3) automatically on disk or save it in the database in a blob field.
Anyone has an idea therefore?

I have a customer who will have up to 20 attachments in emails.

Was there a solution to getting these out of the zip in attachment 3?

This is really a problem , the current email functionality when receiving email is very limited because of this problem. There must be an alternative mechanism or method to handle attachments,

Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this as i am sure support would be interested in some ideas in finding a solution to the current not so nice solution.

I think there should be a separate object for the attachments so when receiving the email attachments are automatically written to the reference.This would be good as one could then have a rule that can process attachments

Has there been any additional change to allow this to happen. If the third attachment is a zip file, I'd like to be able to pull the individual items out and store them as documents within my system.

The way I would do this is to Export the 3rd attachment to disk , then use EXECUTE PROGRAM and 3rd party Pdf application to "burst" the file into individual files to a clean directory . Then in the same PROCESS using this :
CREATE DocumentObj FOR EACH FILE IN C:\BurstFiles\WITH DocumentObject.Attr= etc etc

also forgot to mention, Delete the files in the directory as the last step of your process

Hmm, interesting, I'll have to investigate this. I really wish though that the email object would be changed to a collection of attachments instead of limiting it to 3 attachments. It's just doesn't make sense in this day and age of using email.
