Aware IM Web Service Call returns just 10 attributes in quer

Hi,

I am using an Aware IM web service to retrieve the business objects by firing off the query as follows :

The URL used to access web service is http://localhost:8080/AwareIM/urlRequest.aw

Making a POST HTTP Call with following parameters :

actionType=run_query_action&query_string=FIND ALL employees

However, the data returned has just 10 attributes for every business object, even though the object has more than 10 attributes.

Is there something wrong in the way I am acessing data or is this a limitation?

If there is a workaround, please let me know.

Aware IM will always return those attributes that it was told to return. Since in this case there are none, it picks the first 10 attributes by default. To specify which attributes it should return you need to define a query in the configuration and specify the attributes to be returned. Then refer to this query in your XML call by adding the query_name parameter.

The names of the attributes are NOT specified in the XML request - they should be specified in the query that you define in your application configuration. The XML request should just mention the name of this query.

I tried a lot of various options with no visible signs of success

a) As indicated, I did create a new Query "RSQuery" in the sample CRM BSV as follows :

"SELECT OutgoingEmail.ReplyRequiredBy,OutgoingEmail.State,OutgoingEmail.SentToAddress,OutgoingEmail.Subject,OutgoingEmail.Message,OutgoingEmail.CommunicationType,OutgoingEmail.ContactTime,OutgoingEmail.CreatedOn,OutgoingEmail.CorrespondentLastName,OutgoingEmail.CorrespondentFirstName,OutgoingEmail.ID FROM CRM_OUTGOINGEMAIL AS OutgoingEmail"

I then tried to pass the POST body <root><query_layout_action query_name='RSQuery'/></root> to the URL /AwareIM/xml.awr.

This just returns <query_string>FIND ALL OutgoingEmail</query_string> !!! This is same as run_query_action call to urlRequest.aw.

b) I then try making a POST Call to /AwareIM/urlRequest.aw :

method.addParameter("actionType", "query_layout_action");
method.addParameter("query_name", "RSQuery");
method.addParameter("object_name", "OutgoingEmail");

This returns the error : <root> <query_layout_action_return> <failure>Either object name or query name must be specified as parameters to query_layout_action</failure> </query_layout_action_return> </root>

Can someone please throw some light on how to make a call to get all the attributes ( > 10) of a Business Object either through Query String or through Named Queries?

The strange part is AwareIM expects any integrator or developer to understand all these with absolutely no documentation!

1) Aware IM DOES NOT expect anyone to use these XML API unless you really want to. And if you do want to, you really need to understand well quite a few technologies, including Aware IM itself.
2) You need to DEFINE attributes that you want to return in the QUERY itself - use the Details button on the query editor and tick the attributes you need to return
3) Do not use SQL queries - use only Aware IM queries
4) In your XML use exactly the same parameters as in the original call in the first message, but also add query_name parameter to refer to your query
5) If you really need to use these API you need to study the Javascript file aware_full.js in AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/aware_ext directory. This file has all the examples of using these API's that you need, because it contains complete code of Aware IM front end. Together with the DTD file it is enough for a professional to understand how to work with these API's. And you do need to be a professional to do this. If you are not, do not attempt it.

There is absolutely no need to use these API's unless you want to create completely custom front-ends.

So basically this is solvable if you

1) Make an inside Aware query, choose any Qty of attributes from a BO
2) Call that Query

This will return more than 10 fields?

yes it does not return more than 10 attributes in any test.

it seems to be a limitation in AwareIM.

If query_name parameter is specified in XML and it is specified properly and the query that it refers to has attributes to return defined, Aware IM will return ALL attributes. Otherwise, Aware IM queries wouldn't work, because this call is used everywhere by Aware IM itself. Double check that you have specified everything properly.
