Mugu,
I think I understand what you are asking, and this is the technique I have been using for the last couple of months (this was an enhancement done in Jan/Feb - I think). This "tip" should probably find its way to the Tips & Techniques part of the forum.
You have a query result list, in which each row has an "edit" like operation.
In the Visual Perspective item, I set the target panel to open in a NEW TAB. (this is also a process action that will allow you to CREATE or VIEW IN TAB - check the docs, it does not apply to all the actions you might think)
The Edit function is set to open a Form as TAB.
On the Form for the BO, there is a section entitled "Miscellaneous" at the top of the Business Object Form. This section contains options to default caption, no capture or "use this caption"
If you select "use this caption" you can enter attribute level syntax or TAG to have it pull directly from the bo instance it opens.
For example: I have a BO call projects. My project query show a list of 10 projects, I click edit for one of them, it opens the tab and the label on the tab "Marketing Campaigns Fall 2010", which is the name of the project I selected
This is accomplished by putting <<Projects.ProjectName>> in the "use this caption". So basically you can create any type of tag like you would for an HTML field on a form or with a report or word merge.
I also use this function for my Contacts, so when I view a record in a tab I will use <<Contacts.ContactType+': '+Contacts.DisplayName>> where contact.type is actually the type of contact i am tracking
this then shows me "Staff: John Smith", "Vendor: Will Bailey", "Client: Jane Doe"
Very good stuff - I happy to report that this was a request on the forum that Aware responded to and completed. Thanks guys - I use it all the time.
