DISPLAY_URL used in a VP with 4 panels

I have a VP set up with 4 panels.

In one panel I would like to display an external site using the DISPLAY_URL function.

The panel has been set up with a Command... Start Process and the process has a DISPLAY_URL action. I'm using a process because the url is being built by rules.

It works BUT... the url site does not open in the desired panel, we have the option to specify where it opens as follows:

“IN MAIN WINDOW”, ... replaces the the current VP with a single page
“IN NEW WINDOW”, ...opens a new browser and leaves the old panel blank
“IN CURRENT TAB”, ... replaces the the current VP with a single page
“NEW TAB” or ... opens a new tab and leaves the old panel blank
“FULL SCREEN” ... replaces Aware with the external site

But none of these will display the url in the current panel. Is there some way of doing this? eg "IN CURRENT PANEL" option?

Perhaps you could share some details of what the criteria are for the URL to be constructed. Perhaps this could happen in a separate process and store the value in an attribute. You would then not need to have the command start a process, but simply display the URL, in which case it should work without any problems in the panel.

I'm basically trying to get 4 x Google Charts on one page using the Google chart API. I have constructed the http urls using counts to get the URL looking fine. eg something like:

(if you drop that in a browser it displays fine)

and I could store these URLs in 4 x attributes, but if I go to the VP and the Selected Panel use the Command option and then choose URL - I can't seem to make it refer to an attribute?!? I have tried it with and without << >> and it doesn't work. I'm guessing the URL option only accepts static references to url's?

Any ideas?

I have not found an easy way to do this using DISPLAY URL action.

You can accomplish this by:

1) Add 4 Plain Text attributes to RegularUser BO -- long enough to hold your URLs.

2) Create a RegularUser form that has 4 HTML cells -- most likely in 2 columns. Each HTML cell will refer to a different attribute from #1 above.

For example, one HTML cell contents would be: <<RegularUser.Graph_1>>

Click "Hide Label" on these HTML cells.

Turn off captions and buttons on this RegularUser form.

3) Create a process "ViewFourGraphs":
VIEW LoggedInRegularUser USING 'Four Graphs'

4) In a VP content panel, use the process from #3 above.

To test:
5) Open the bsv in test mode

6) use Standard | Change Login Details & put the following in one of the attributes created in #1 above:

7) Use variations of the text above for the other 3 attributes from #1 above.

8-) Click Standard | Home

9) You should see the 4 Google graphs on the screen

10) To make this operational, you can use rules to create the text that was input by the user in #6 and #7 above

In certain cases, you can present the attributes from #1 above in a Query. In such a query, you would turn off the label and caption.

A small "trap for young players" to be Aware of (pun intended)...

Aware will have problems with the double apostrophe required by Tom's solution when using the html tag <img src="

Therefore I had to create a SystemSetting attribute to store the Apostrophe and add it that way. I did try with the ` (ie the one under the "~") but that didnt work.

Therefore when building my URL it looks like this:

LoggedInRegularUser.SalesGraph='<img src='+SystemSettings.Apos+'http://chart.apis.google.com/... etc etc

Maybe there is a more elegant way but I don't knwo it.
