It does make one important difference, using MySQL or SQL vs. the built-in Derby database. The derby database is by default case sensitive. So if you were running a query for a particular object (say LastName = 'Johnson'), and typed it as "johnson", it will not return a result in Derby. In MySQL or SQL, you could type johnson any-which way, and it will return the result.
