How do you send a plain text email?

I'm trying to send a plain text email from Aware.

I have created an Outgoing Email Notification with just a subject and message attribute (both are defined as plain text). But when the email sends it still sends it as an HTML email.

Is there a way to ensure the message is sent as Plain text and not HTML?

(this is important because the receiver can only consume plain text emails)

How do you know it is sent as HTML if there are no HTML tags in the message?

If there are, it will send it both as HTML and plain text - clients who can use HTML will see HTML, others will see plain text
