Can you upgrade a runtime without reinstalling it

We need to implement the improvement we paid for being 'Invisibiltiy condition for VP'

I don't want to have to spend a couple of hours re-installing the runtime and then customise it to suite the customer. This is a costly exercise for us.

As we can't build a runtime patch which just includes the changes can we just copy the necessary files to the runtime to upgrade it to the latest patch?

Generally speaking you do need to re-build the runtime and install it on top of the old one on the customer's site.

However, in this particular case you can just update two files:
1) AwareIM/Tomcat/shared/lib/awareim.jar
2) AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/AwareIM/aware_ext/aware.js

Is there anything in the pipeline for an update option that doesn't overwrite all of the customisation especially the development runtime.

This is what we have to do every time we update the development environment and a customer.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Change AwareIM to <Name>

1. Rename C:\AwareIM\Tomcat\webapps\AwareIM directory to C:\AwareIM\Tomcat\webapps\<Name>

2. Open the file web.xml located in the AwareIM/Tomcat/webapps/<Name>/WEB-INF directory, search for AwareIM and replace it with <Name>

3. Open the file aware.js located in C:\AwareIM\Tomcat\webapps\<Name>\aware_ext, search for AwareIM and replace it with <Name>

4. Open UIConfig.props file in /AwareIM/bin and add: OperationMode = http://localhost:8080/<Name>/logonAdmin.html

Hi,

This is a major issue for anyone using the developer edition of Aware. It is very difficult for a developer to keep clients' installations up to date when the Aware version changes a few times each year.

It seems to me that the choice is to either use a single version of Aware for all developments (and don't upgrade it ever) or update all customers' installations every time Aware changes version. It's a big problem.

If Aware wants us to purchase annual licences for the latest version of Aware, it needs to provide an easy way to upgrade previous version customer installations to the current version.

On a side note, I've noticed that if I update a customer installation with a new BSV, then the admin password for the installation reverts to 'password'. Has anyone else noticed that ? Again, it's a real nuisance to have to reset the admin password at every update - and to remember to do it !

I have to do pretty much the same steps that Wings posted ( plus SSL ) every time we implement a new version. There is just so much that can go wrong and turn an hour upgrade into 5 hours of trouble shooting. This is stressful process to do what should be a pretty simple upgrade.

Has there been any progress on this feature, with V5 and a growing number of customers this is going to become an important feature to upgrade and keep existing settings

Am about to bite the bullet and upgrade to developer - although to be honest I'll probably be hosting a single app with many clients rather than developng separate custom apps.
