optional subject: the unexpected ways users try to use software
I have a BO that is used to send out e-mails. Of course it has the normal EmailAddress field defined as Plain Text, length 50 and Input mask of E-mail. This field appears on the BO's form so that the user can enter the EmailAddress to send the Email to.
I had a user enter 2 email addresses in this field separated by a coma (,) and Aware accepted them. I was surprised to learn of this because I would have thought that Aware would have flagged this as an invalid email format.
I just had to investigate. When I tried to duplicate this, I was unable to enter a coma in this field. I had to put a coma in another text field and copy and paste it into the email field. In this way I was able to enter 2 email addresses with a coma between them and Aware did not complain. When I submitted the form, which kicks off the process to send the emails, only the first address got the email. The second address got nothing. I assume this is not what the user wanted.
I created a rule to report an error if the EmailAddress field contains multiple addresses, but shouldn't Aware be doing this internally?
