Re-edit record from query through process

I have a query and editing a record from this query is handled by a process. And in this process I use the "EDIT" command to edit the selected record. Now after this command I do a few validations. If one of those validations fails I display a message and then restart the same process. But when the "EDIT" command is executed again I get the message "Unable to edit/view unresolved object". So it seems Aware IM lost the record I originally selected from the query.

My construction of restarting the process might not be a "clean" solution, but I have no idea how to solve this otherwise. I can't put these validations in rules because I need to validate several business opbjects based on eachother's results. In addition, these validations should only be executed for this particular process and not always.

How should I handle this kind of functionality?

Here is a simplified example of my process, but gives the same result.

Process1

EDIT BO1 USING FORM1
If EXISTS BO1 WHERE (BO1.name=ThisBO1.name AND BO1.ID<>ThisBO1.ID) Then
a. DISPLAY MESSAGE 'Duplicate name!'
b. Process1

Use REPORT ERROR instead of DISPLAY MESSAGE and DO NOT restart the process inside IF. Aware IM will automatically resume the process after REPORT ERROR.

EDIT BO1 USING FORM1
If EXISTS BO1 WHERE (BO1.name=ThisBO1.name AND BO1.ID<>ThisBO1.ID) Then
REPORT ERROR 'Duplicate name!'

I tried this construction before. But I want to lead the user back to the form after the message is displayed.

In other words, in some cases I just can't use rules because of the complexity of validations as well as validations which should not be executed on every form. But I do want to achieve the same behavior as rules where the user remains on the form in case an error occurs.

OK. I'm afraid it's either validation using rules of the object or the process will have to be run by the user again. Conceptually, it is something that is specific to the object even if it doesn't happen for every form and so the rule approach is justified. You can control it by statuses if you want.
