Checking if a BO instance was saved

When you enter data in a form and press the BACK button , a message will popup to ask if you want to save your data.

Now, if the form has a an html button that interacts with the file system, I'd like to force the user to use the Save button.

Would it be possible to set a kind of UNSAVED flag from a rule in order to trigger the BACK button behave as above ?

Well, I was rather thinking of a "flag" added to .startProcessFromForm. But I'm ready to try using the javascript approach.
So yes, let's get started...

The idea is to set some value into any field of the form to cause it to become dirty. The rough code to do this is:

AwareApp.getFormPanel (btnElem).getForm().findField(attrName).originalValue=some weird value

where btnElem is your button on the form. This element has to be inside the <form> tag

attrName is the name of any attribute displayed by the form - the code will set the "originalValue" of the field to some weird value. This will make sure that the comparison between the actual value in the field and the "originalValue" fails and the form will thus be considered dirty.

This code can be inside the onclick handler of your button and the btnElem can be "this"

Currently, the HTML cell on the form has the following code:

As the button does just nothing with that code, I guess it's not right.

Is the use of the HTML cell OK ?

Can we try to "code" a button to make the form dirty ?

Try this:

Note that I changed the order of the calls and changed a few things in the call as well. Also turn on Javascript diagnostics. If the code does nothing it means that there is a Javascript error. You need to get the browser to display what the problem is (it is somewhere in the browser's settings)

This code works and will trigger the Save window when Back button is clicked:

But .getFormPanel + .startProcessFromForm together don't work :

The code seems correct, I don't get any error in Firebug. I also tried to place .getFormPanel after .startProcess.. but it doesn't make a difference.

Does startProcessFromForm work on its own?

Yes, it does.

Should work in this case. Are you sure there are no errors displayed in the browser? Have you checked the LogViewer to see if the process has been started?

Also try adding alert("some message") statements before and after the call to startProcessFromForm. alert statement displays a message on screen so you know if it gets executed or not.

I have defined a Test button with following code:

Process Test: If 1=1 Then REPORT ERROR 'Just to see..'

After OK'ing the error prompt, the BACK button DOES trigger the Save changes? prompt ! So, it works.

Then I changed process Test to: If 1=1 Then DISPLAY MESSAGE 'Just to see..'

After OK'ing the message prompt, the BACK button DOES NOT trigger the Save changes? prompt !

I further noticed (in FF3) that after OKing the msg prompt, the form gets redrawn. This is probably when the "dirty" state gets wiped off... In IE7, redrwaing is not visible, but the behavior is the same.
